Day 1: Introduction to Bioinformatics & Biological Databases
- Overview of bioinformatics and its applications
- Introduction to major biological databases (NCBI, UniProt, Ensembl)
- DNA and protein sequence formats
- Pairwise and multiple sequence alignment (Clustal Omega, MUSCLE)
- Basics of phylogenetic trees and methods
- Building trees using MEGA or PhyML
- Introduction to genome browsers (UCSC, Ensembl)
- Exploring gene structure and variants
- Basics of protein structure
- Protein structure databases (PDB)
- Homology modeling (SWISS-MODEL, Phyre2)
- Docking and drug-target interactions
- Tools: AutoDock Vina
- Analyze a biological dataset using learned tools
